Boston winters are rough on our skin, but with a little proactive pampering, you can avoid the painful cracked, dryness they bring. The city’s pumpkin obsession doesn’t need to stop at lattes, why not try pumpkin for the face? We were humbled to find out that when used topically, this beloved old gourd can work wonders for the skin.
Haven Beauty is one of the only Greater Boston salons taking a holistic approach to self-care. Founded in October 2019 by Emily Sobers, Haven Beauty opts for essential oils over carcinogenic chemicals, holistic care over symptomatic bandages, and prides itself on being a trustworthy haven where guests can relax and replenish their bodies inside and out.
Haven started as a haircare salon offering all of the classic treatments from cuts to colors but has since expanded to become a one-stop destination for bodily rejuvenation. You can recharge with a massage, detox with their infrared sauna, glow up with a facial, or even partake in one of their yoga sessions! This oasis also landed on 2022’s “Best of Boston” list.
They carry an extensive range of brands, most of which you’ve probably never heard of, but ones that are actually clean and effective. There is no greenwashing at this salon. The founder, Emily, tirelessly discovers the best products with the latest innovations that will actually get you the same, if not better, results than those not-so-good-for-you toxic alternatives.
Some of the salon’s signature brands include Innersense Organic Beauty, Oway from Italy, and O&M from Australia for hair. For skin, Haven partners with a farm-to-bottle Californian brand called “Botnia, ” some of whose products you’ll get to experience during the Pumpkin facial!
The seasonal pumpkin oat facial at Haven Beauty
The seasonal pumpkin and oat facial is the perfect treat to prep your skin for New England’s drying winters. According to Haven Beauty:
This facial will leave your skin glowing and hydrated and is perfect to prep your skin for the fall weather. A pumpkin enzyme will deeply exfoliate dead skin cells, dirt and debris. Manuka honey is then used to draw moisture into the skin. Finished off with a yummy pumpkin and oat mask to lock in hydration and brighten the skin.
It sounds so delicious you can almost eat it! Honestly, you probably can because Haven’s ingredients are that clean. But that’s a conversation for one to have with Dawn or Victoria, the two estheticians running Haven’s skincare sector.
