This Hanukkah-Themed Pop-Up Is Now Open In Sommerville!

It’s going to be biblical!

It’s time to get into the holiday spirit(s) Bostonians. The pandemic may have canceled a lot of our favorite activities but at least we still got holiday pop-ups like Maccabee Bar. The bright blue pop-up bar will be making a landing in Sommerville at Bow Market’s Variety Bar next month.

Variety Bar’s star bartender and local celeb, Naomy Levy, is bringing back her popular Hanukkah-inspired pop-up for its third run.  Like the previous year, you can expect to enjoy a plethora of Hanukkah-inspired cocktails carefully crafted by Levy.

Old favorites will be making a comeback, like the “Hebrew Hammer” a cocktail inspired by the delicious sufganiyot made with vodka, “leavened” sugar, lemon and raspberry, along with new options like the “Hot Date” a hot toddy flavored with cardamon and date among other incredible options.

Non-alcoholic beverages will also be available and if you cannot bring yourself to choose one of Maccabee’s many incredible options you can always spin the dreidel and let yourself be surprised. L’Chaim!

To go along with the drinks Maccabee bar will also be offering a number of Hanukkah-friendly noshes including latkes by chef Louis DiBiccari and sufganiyot — jelly donuts — by Lionheart Confections.

In true 2020-pandemic fashion, this year Maccabee Bar will also be offering at-home kits so you can celebrate from the comfort of your own home. These $50 kits will be available for pre-ordering starting November 23 and will include two single-serve bottled Maccabee Bar Cocktails, hummus & flatbread by Humaari Provisions, two mini jelly donuts by Lionheart Confections, a  dreidel & gelt and some crafts & activities for you to enjoy at home.

Maccabee Bar will be opening at Bow Market on December 2 just in time for the holidays and will be taking place Wednesday through Thursday until  January 3. The pop-up will also be opening on Monday, December 14, and Tuesday, December 15, for the week of Hanukkah.

For more information on this year’s pop-up experience, make sure to check out Maccabee Bar’s website.
