Sadly, the coronavirus pandemic continues to have negative repercussions on Boston’s restaurant scene.
The pandemic continues to shutter down many of the city’s beloved dining spots. Cheers Faneuil Hall and The Fours Boston close to TD Garden recently announced their closure. This time around, it would seem, it’s Kendall Square’s popular breakfast spot The Friendly Toast turn to say goodbye.
The local chain of breakfast spots recently announced it would be closing down its Cambridge location, which had remained closed since the start of the pandemic earlier in March. The Management team shared a heartfelt note saying goodbye to Friendly Toast’s Cambridge community.
“We are saddened to announce we will not be reopening our Kendall Square- Cambridge, MA location,” reads the Instagram post. We cannot thank you all enough for the overwhelmingly positive support over the years”
“Over the last couple months, we’ve been slowly and safely reopening our restaurants with every precaution in mind to keep our team and guests safe. We cannot thank you all enough for our overwhelmingly positive support we’ve received in these very challenging restaurant and life times.”
The chain first opened its Kendall Square spot back in 2009 and had become to a very popular weekend brunch spot for students and families alike. Friendly Toast’s Cambridge location was originally set to reopen on July 30 according to the company, which tweeted the announcement. Unfortunately, that opening never arrived.
Luckily, Friendly Toast fans can still get their fix of breakfast toast at one of the chain’s other locations including the one located in Boston’s Back Bay which first opened back in 2015.
