FAI Canteen opened in the South End this summer, and the new weekday breakfast-and-lunch spot is planning a grand-opening party in September.
The globally inspired canteen is tucked inside a residential and coworking loft building on Albany Street. Inside, owner Chef Michelle creates a rotating selection of sweet and savory dishes, from Persian love cake and rye chocolate brownies to egg-and-cheese breakfast sandwiches with add-ons such as chicken sausage, chimichurri, rapini, and chili crisp.

The menu changes with the seasons and draws on global flavors. Guests can pick up smaller baked goods and grab-and-go items, or opt for more substantial lunch fare, including a grilled hanger steak sandwich with chimichurri, arugula, and red onion on grilled focaccia.
FAI Canteen primarily serves takeout but also has a small number of indoor bistro tables for dining in. The canteen is located at 535 Albany St. in Boston’s South End, a brick building dating back to 1896.
