This Women’s History Month marks a monumental milestone for the life-changing national organization with local roots, the Ellie Fund. The Ellie Fund provides free essential support to women undergoing breast cancer treatment in Massachusetts—covering all of the essentials—from childcare to house cleaning, transportation, groceries, prepared meals, and more.
All of this critical support offers one less thing to worry about for women undergoing breast cancer treatment. This enables them to focus on their health. For the last 30 years, the Ellie Fund has brought people together at an elegant gala to raise awareness, generate critical funds, and, most importantly, celebrate and honor the beautiful “Ellies” whose lives have been touched by the fund.
Held on the same night of the Academy Awards, with an Oscar viewing party at the gala, the Ellie Fund is rolling out the red carpet, and invites you to dawn your best couture ensemble for the gala. The gala brings a taste of west coast glamour to Seaport for one night!
And it wouldn’t be an Oscars party without stars! This year’s gala honoree is a New York Times bestselling author and the queen of Nantucket, Elin Hilderbrand. Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman stars in The Perfect Couple, the limited series adaptation of Hildebrand’s beloved Nantucket novel, while Five-Star Weekend, starring Jennifer Garner, premieres later this year on Peacock.
Elin openly shared her personal journey with breast cancer, an experience that has shaped her life and deepened her commitment to supporting others facing the disease. Ellie Fund was officially founded in 1995 by brothers Jeff and Eliot Popkin in loving memory of their mother, Eleanor “Ellie” Popkin, who passed away in 1987 after a courageous 15-year battle with metastatic breast cancer. Ellie’s resilience inspired the fund’s mission to ease the journey of patients and families facing the same challenge of breast cancer.
