After fasting for the holy month of Ramadan, the sighting of the crescent moon confirmed that Wednesday, April 10 is Eid al-Fitr!
Muslims in Boston and beyond are celebrating with special foods, festivities, charitable and volunteer opportunities, prayers, and more.
The holiday also encourages helping others in need following a month of fasting with a mandated “zakat al-Fitr,” charity to provide meals for those without food. Here are the best spots to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Boston and beyond, this week!
Where to celebrate Eid al-Fitr in Boston?
There are about 80,000 Muslims in Boston and the community continues to grow, to the extent that councilors are pushing to recognize Eid as a municipal holiday. Until that happens, you’ll have to use your PTO to fully enjoy the day off and celebrate at one, or all of the fantastic events happening in Boston this week. Check them out below!
- April 10 @ 7 AM: ISBCC Eid Prayer and celebration; Visit Boston’s largest Islamic center for a beautiful Eid gathering, food, community, and more. There will be two additional prayers at 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM. (100 Malcolm X Blvd, Roxbury)
- April 10 @ 7 AM and 8:30 AM: Enjoy Eid prayers at Yusuf Mosque in Brighton! There will also be face painting, henna, bounce houses, and balloon twisting for an amazing time! (186 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton)
- April 11 @ 11 AM: Join Massachusetts State Senator Liz Miranda, the Islamic Society of Boston Cultural Center, and the Massachusetts Black and Latino Caucus for Boston’s second annual Eid al-Fitr celebration at the Massachusetts State House! There will be remarks, food, and more! (24 Beacon St, Boston)
- April 11 @ 11 AM: Join the Wayland Public Library for a free kid-centric Eid celebration that will include story time, henna, crafts, snacks and more! (5 Concord Rd., Wayland)
- April 13 @ 12 PM: The ISBCC’s annual Eid Carnival returns complete with a petting zoo, food stalls, games, and more! (100 Malcolm X Blvd, Roxbury)
- April 13 @ 4 PM: Annual Eid Festival at Worcester Islamic Center complete with pony rides, face painting, bounce houses, special guests, and delicious treats from halal food vendors! (248 E. Mountain St., Worcester)
- Sunday April 14 @ 2 PM: The Franklin Public Library is also hosting a free Eid al-Fitr celebration complete with crafts, music, snacks, and more! (118 Main St., Franklin)
