Death Cab for Cutie will return to Boston next spring for two nights at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. The indie rock band is scheduled to perform April 7 and 8, 2027, with Swapmeet opening both shows.
The Boston dates arrive with the official video for “Stone Over Water,” the latest single from the band’s 11th studio album, I Built You A Tower. Released through ANTI- Records, the album marks Death Cab for Cutie’s return to an independent label after 20 years with Atlantic Records.
“Stone Over Water” examines the pressure to tell yourself and others that you are fine when you are not. Musician and animator Sean Solomon directed and created the video, pairing the song’s emotional weight with an intentionally playful, slapstick-cartoon style. Inspired by visual-gag cartoonists including MAD Magazine contributor Sergio Aragonés, Solomon’s animation follows a small character through a bad day before delivering a more hopeful message about connection, kindness, and not facing difficult moments alone.
The five-piece group—Benjamin Gibbard, Nicholas Harmer, Jason McGerr, Dave Depper and Zac Rae—has recently marked the 20th anniversaries of landmark albums Transatlanticism and Plans through sold-out tours.
Death Cab for Cutie’s 2027 North American tour begins Jan. 19 in Honolulu and includes stops in Nashville, Atlanta, Miami, Austin, Montreal, Boston, New York and Asheville. Learn more about showtimes near you.
