Formerly the L Street Bathhouse, Curley Community Center underwent a $31.2 million renovation. The new community center, spanning three blocks along South Boston’s shoreline, includes many amenities for Bostonians to enjoy.
Curley Community Center transformed after $31.2 million investment
While membership and proof of Boston residency are required due to high demand, the center is completely free to use once approved. The community center, once just stalls of outdated bathrooms and showers, transformed into a waterfront oasis complete with women’s and men’s saunas and steam rooms. This means you can practice your contrast therapy in the salt water!
In addition to the sauna and steam spaces, Curley Community Center now includes a fitness studio, yoga and dance studio, cardio space, strength training weight room, playroom, teen space, senior space, multi-purpose spaces, and offices for Bostonians to enjoy for free. The majority of rooms in the picturesque three blocks of the building overlook Boston’s L Street Beach in Southie.
The space also includes changing areas, showers, and restrooms. The new space is reimagined by the local, women-owned firm, designLAB architects.
Community programming
The center hosts a full schedule of year-round community events. Senior events include over 12 different programs such as cooking classes and bingo! The center also hosts fitness classes like Zumba, barre, and yoga. In the summer, BCFY hosts a pickleball program the center. Learn more and apply for membership online.
Curley Community Center is managed by Boston Centers for Youth and Families, who also oversee plenty of Boston’s free swimming pools!
