The CowParade New England is back! From June 24 to September 4, a herd of 75 uniquely designed and dressed cows will be mooing around all over the city! Each cow is designed by a local artist and placed in at a different Boston landmark or neighborhood. Cows are taking over the city from the Boston Common to Faneuil Hall.
The cows have been designed by local artists to benefit the Dana Farber Institute’s work to combat cancer and to recognize the Jimmy Fund’s 75th anniversary. The 75 cows are up for sale, with some of them being purchased before they even make it to the public debut on June 24. All funds from cow sales benefit the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and will be used to advance research in a cure for cancer.
Here are some of the most legen-dairy cow sculptures you need to check out during the CowParade New England!
- Boston Urban Sketcher at Quincy Market – Designed by Howie Green, this cow will be covered with drawings of Boston scenes, buildings, and landmarks to look like pages of a sketchbook have been torn out. Howie Green’s artwork has appeared in over 45 solo and group shows and on over 100 murals and public art projects for clients across the globe, including CowParade Boston in 2006.
- Finigan at Quincy Market – This cow was designed by Nicholas Heaney to honor Duncan Finigan, recovery shoe-brand OOFOS’ first employee. OOFOS’ launched their Project Pink Initiative in 2015 to support the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and has since donated more than $3.4 million to fight breast cancer. Nicholas Heaney is a Cape Cod based artist, with a portfolio directly inspired by the coastal landscape surrounding him. Breaking the two-dimensional plane of traditional painting, Heaney uses heavy impasto to sculpt waves in his creations.
- Orange Line Cow at City Hall Plaza – Designed by recent Emerson graduate, Matt Baynes, this cow pays homage to the antique orange line trains being phased out.
In Boston fashion, TD Garden’s cow will sport a green Celtics jersey done by Elson & Wilson Fortes, and if you can make it out to Foxborough, artist Neil Collins will have a Patriots cow!
