History of Community Boating Boston
Community Boating unofficially began in 1937 when Joseph Lee, Jr. started a sailing club for Boston’s working-class youth. Despite early challenges, the group officially became Community Boating, Inc. in 1946, pioneering public access to sailing and continuing its mission of “Sailing For All.” CBI became a registered nonprofit in 1951.
