Boston Triathlon, the city’s only triathlon, returns to Southie the weekend of Saturday, August 16-Sunday, August 17, with a chance to catch elite athleticism right in our city. It’s rumored that a few Boston Bruins will trade their skates for sneakers to put their athleticism to the test and compete alongside a pool of other entrants.
If you’re feeling really inspired, registration is open for the triathlon. But if you prefer to sit this one out, the race is free for all to watch! Here’s what to expect and know for Boston’s triathlon:

Kids triathlon events (Saturday, August 16; 1 PM packet pick-up)

The kids’ event offers a pathway to triathlons and is free for all for the fourth consecutive year, thanks to community partner Amazon.
At Amazon, we’re proud to support events that inspire young people to get active, build confidence, and experience the power of community,” said Jerome Smith, Head of Community Engagement for the New England Region at Amazon. “We’re honored to once again partner with the Boston Triathlon to make Kids Day accessible to all and to help create lifelong memories for kids and families across the region.
Events include the USA Triathlon-sanctioned Kids Splash & Dash (ages 7-15) and Kids Fun Run (under the age of 7). Boston Triathlon partnered with the City of Boston for Swim Safe Boston, providing free swim lessons to all kids in greater Boston so they can learn the lifesaving skill of swimming.
There are also team relays for the adult triathlon! For all adult racecourses, you must have an active United States Triathlon membership to participate.
