If you’re like us, you’re all revved up from the Olympics and inspired by the outstanding athleticism. Boston Triathlon, the city’s only triathlon, returns to Southie this weekend, Saturday, August 17- Sunday, August 18, with a chance to catch elite athleticism right in our city.
If you’re feeling really inspired, registration is still open for the triathlon. But if you prefer to sit this one out, the race is free for all to watch! Here’s what to expect and know for Boston’s triathlon:
Boston Triathlon takes Southie
The race begins and ends at Carson Beach in Southie and Mother’s Rest Fields in Four Corners Dorchester no matter which heat you watch or partake in. There are a few different triathlon options, including an Olympic level! All triathlons incorporate a mix of running, swimming, and biking.
- Swim: the triathlon swim takes place at Carson Beach by McCormack Bathhouse
- Bike: a flat loop course through Southie passing along William Day Blvd
- Run: the run commences in Moakley Park and concludes in Mother’s Rest Field with views of the skyline and Harbor along the way
Kids triathlon events
The kids’ event offers a pathway to triathlons and is free for all, thanks to community partner Amazon.
Events include the USA Triathlon-sanctioned Kids Splash & Dash (ages 7-15) and Kids Fun Run (under the age of 7). Boston Triathlon partnered with the City of Boston for Swim Safe Boston, providing free swim lessons to all kids in greater Boston so they can learn the lifesaving skill of swimming.

American mixed relay silver medalists Taylor Spivey and Seth Rider will participate, as well as individual silver medal winner Hayden Wilde of New Zealand and mixed relay bronze medalist Georgia Taylor-Brown of Great Britain. Beth Potter also of Great Britain, who secured the bronze medal in both the individual and the mixed team relay, will be in Boston as well!

This new supertri League event will be raced in true supertri format, which sees athletes compete in three continuous rounds of full gas swim-bike-run. This high-octane racing is only open to pro athletes but will be the first-ever supertri race in Southie.
- supertri length: 300m swim, 4K bike, 1.6K run (done three times)
- Free to spectate, participation not open to public
There are also team relays for the triathlon! For all adult racecourses, you must have an active United States Triathlon membership to participate.
