It’s not a gold-encrusted burger or rare truffle pasta that captured the hearts of Forbes editors as one of the best things they ate in the entire year. The standout dish is a simply prepared Tomato Tartare at The White Barn Inn of Kennebunkport, Maine—an Auberge Resort—just 90 minutes from Boston.
The vegetarian tomato tartare was better than it had any right to be. The tomatoes were fresh and vibrant, and there was a slight sweetness from balsamic vinegar. Mozzarella sat on top with a little olive oil. The restaurant emphasized lobster, but this dish was a sleeper hit, notes Forbes.
The White Barn Inn Tomato Tartare is a signature dish of Executive Chef Mathew Woolf, who pairs fresh, juicy tomatoes with olive jam, burrata ice cream and smoked olive oil.
We couldn’t agree more that Kennebunkport has some sneaky good food! Like the world-famous lobster rolls of The Clam Shack to farm-to-table dining at Earth at Hidden Pond. This Maine town is beloved for its seafront and quaint downtown, but the food scene shouldn’t be ignored.
Kennebunkport also claims the status of “America’s most romantic towns.” Maybe a little rendezvous with some of the best food in the most romantic town is the perfect Valentine’s escape from the city.
Other dishes to make the list could be enjoyed in places like Dubai, the Maldives, and Amsterdam. The only fellow East Coast restaurant to make the list of the 13 best dishes in the world is a Dark chocolate soufflé at Four Seasons Hotel New York Downtown’s CUT restaurant.
