Anthropologie in Harvard Square will close its doors for good this Thursday, January 16. The store is hosting an “everything must go sale,” with items starting at 30% off. The parent company of Anthropologie, URBN, operates over 200 Anthropologie locations globally.
The store, which inhabited the showpiece Harvard Square building, doesn’t mark its reason for leaving the neighborhood. URBN’s other brand also left Harvard Square. Urban Outfitters, which had been in the neighborhood since 1979 closed in 2019, 40 years later. Free People, once on Church Street, operated from 2011 to 2019. According to the most recent Q3 filing report, URBN brands earned a record net income of $102.9 million, with net sales highest for Anthropologie. The report also notes the closing of four Anthropologie stores but opening of nine.
There’s only hours left to shop the discounted Anthropologie on Brattle Street before it closes for good. The closest alternative locations will be the Anthropologie stores in on Newbury Street in Back Bay or Seaport.
If planning to shop, make sure to connect in advance for inventory and hours as they are subject to change.
