Ever had the urge to float down a stunning Dutch canal?
The Dutch capital is one of the most magical cities on Earth. Tranquil canals, colorful tulips, world-renowned museums, and, of course, a few other unique characteristics have long made Amsterdam a top travel destination. The tolerant and eccentric European hotspot offers the perfect laid-back getaway.
Now, in these times of uncertainty, Amsterdam will be one of the first destinations where we can travel like pre-2020 days. Delta Air Lines and KLM Royal Airlines have teamed up to offer a new program for flights between Atlanta and Amsterdam which will begin next Tuesday, December 15 for a three-week trial period.
COVID tests will likely be a new norm for air travel.

The two trans-Atlantic airlines will launch a COVID-19 testing program which will allow eligible customers to be exempt from quarantining if they receive a negative PCR test upon arrival in the Netherlands. Amsterdam Airport Schiphol and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport will together operate four flights from Atlanta to Amsterdam per week.
The President & CEO of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, Pieter Elbers, said “This is a very important and great step forward. Until an approved working vaccine is available worldwide, this testing program represents the first step towards the international travel industry’s recovery.”

Until now the entry requirements for the Netherlands have been a minimum of 10 days of quarantine. From next week, by completing a negative PCR test five days before arrival, self-isolating until departure, and passing a rapid-test at Schiphol airport customers can skip the normal 10-day quarantine period and freely roam the beautiful canaled-city the moment they leave the airport.
Here is a breakdown of Delta and KLM’s new travel requirements:
- Take a COVID-19 PCR test 5 days before arrival in Amsterdam.
- Take a rapid antigen test prior to boarding.
- Take a final PCR test when arriving at Amsterdam Schiphol.
