Queries for “what would happen if aliens came to earth” surged a gobsmacking 2,850% in recent months, following the release of the first-ever police handbook on UFOs. Belief in extraterrestrial life is increasing, with nearly two-thirds of Americans now convinced that aliens exist—34% of Americans believe UFOs are proof of alien life— a 14% increase from just 20% of Americans in 1996.
What would happen if this suspicion were a reality and aliens do exist and came to America? A recent study collated national data, factoring in the number of UFO sightings, natural hiding spots like forests and caves, per capita military, law enforcement, scientists, engineers, healthcare workers, and the number of food and beverage manufacturers, to reveal the odds of survival in each state— ranking the 10 best and worst with an overall “alien survival score.”
Massachusetts, which ranked fourth most like state to survive an alien invasion, earned an overall score of 7.81, outranking New York which earned a score of 7.78 marking its spot at fifth most likely to survive.
The top ranked state and most likely state to survive an alien invasion is Virginia, earning a survival score of 8.03.
Massachusetts is the only New England state to make it on the top 10, so if you’re a resident, count your blessings.
Unfortunately for our friends over in New Hampshire, home of “live free or die,” the survival rate is not looking too free.
New Hampshire ranked as America’s eighth least likely state to survive an alien invasion.
Their overall survival score rounded out at 6.49.
Hopefully aliens like clam chowder and lobster rolls if they’re going to coexist in Massachusetts. Maybe flying UFOs will solve our traffic problems.
