Boston’s cultural heartbeat has long pulsed through Jamaica Plain, where early Cuban arrivals helped transform Hyde Square into the vibrant Latin Quarter it is today. Now, that deep-rooted connection to the island takes center stage at one of the best speakeasies in the city for The Jazz Room: Journey to the Heart of Cuba.
Coming to Scullers Jazz Club for three nights only starting November 5, the club becomes a kinetic celebration of bolero, son, and salsa, breathing live energy into Cuban standards like “Chan Chan”, “Cómo Fue” and “La Vida Es Un Carnaval”.

From slow boleros to salsa: how the night unfolds
The Jazz Room: Journey to the Heart of Cuba is an hour-long live show that takes you through three of Cuba’s best-loved styles, in the order you’d want to hear them. It starts slow with the bolero, the island’s romantic ballad, before the tempo lifts into son and finally lands on salsa—the point where you’ll catch your feet tapping under the table.
The band sticks to the classics but leaves room for the unexpected: horns, vocals and improvised solos mean no two nights sound quite the same. Along the way you’ll hear “Chan Chan” the song tied to Buena Vista Social Club; “Cómo Fue” associated with Benny Moré; Trío Matamoros’ “Son de la Loma”; Celia Cruz’s “La Vida es un Carnaval”; and “Guantanamera” in Compay Segundo’s version, plus plenty more.
Your table at Scullers Jazz Club: how to get there
Scullers has been part of Boston’s jazz club scene since October 1989, tucked into the ground floor of the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Boston–Cambridge at 400 Soldiers Field Road. Its stage has welcomed Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Harry Connick Jr. and Jamie Cullum, and Latin jazz has long sat on its calendar alongside straight-ahead and contemporary sets.
The most convenient public-transport option is the Red Line to Central Square, followed by the MBTA Route 64 bus toward Oak Square and a short walk to the club.
Driving in? The hotel’s connected garage has an elevator up to the lobby, and the club validates parking.
