Owned by a former antiques dealer, this sequestered restaurant on Mount Vernon Street celebrates the treasure hunt. From the hidden worldly influences in their delicious American fare to an exciting secret menu for those in the know, 1928 on Beacon Hill is full of delightful surprises.
The 1920s meets a cozy lodge
The restaurant opened just in 2021 and has quickly become a popular spot to connect over an elegant meal in a 20s-inspired speakeasy setting. Antique touches are scattered throughout the intimate space, as 1928 owner, Kristin Jenkins, also of Leonard’s New England, a historic antiques store in Seekonk, celebrates her love for antiques while paying homage to her grandfather who was born in 1928.
Relax into the plush leather booth, while admiring antique paintings, cozy lighting, and unique wallpaper during their brunch or dinner service. While the restaurant is open to all, 1928 gives the air of a luxe members club.
American fare with global influence
The restaurant celebrates the arrival of spring juxtaposed with the onboarding of a new culinary director, Chris Maxson, a North Shore native and former Chef de Cuisine at the award-winning Deuxave on Massachusetts Avenue in Back Bay. The 1928 menu focuses on American fare with influences from Japan, Morocco, and Italy.
The Fried Cauliflower and Shishito Peppers are one of the best things we ate this month in Boston, decorated with toasted hazzelnuts and Za’atar vinaigrette atop a bed of Calabrian chili whipped feta. The equally delicious Steak Frites harmonize a classic French dish with Japanese influences. Indulge in a 10 ounce strip marinated in a black garlic soy sauce with a glazed in a peppercorn miso butter sauce and finished with a side of black truffle aioli.
The 1928 Burger is also heralded as one of the city’s best! Speaking of the best, 1928, set in Boston’s historic Beacon Hill celebrates famous residents who once wandered these same streets, like some of history’s greatest authors.
Beacon Hill Heist
Designed for the most adventurous of eaters, the 1928 secret menu, dubbed the “Beacon Hill Heist,” features an exciting culinary journey with interactive tableside elements.
