Nicknamed “Garden of Europe,” Keukenhof boasts one of the most impressive tulip displays in the world. If you Google tulip farm, it’s likely one of the most common visual references, with boundless rainbow fields boasting millions of tulips decorating the Netherlands park.
Luckily for Bostonians, New England’s Keukenhof is not that far from the city, just 60 minutes, and run by a Dutchman and his wife who wanted to bring the joy of Holland’s famous tulip fields to America.
Co-founder of Wicked Tulips Flower Farm in New England, Jeroen Koeman was actually raised on one of the Netherlands’ dreamy tulip farms. Koeman grew up on land surrounded by millions of tulips. Koeman’s mystical childhood on a tulip farm was so romantic it swooned his co-founder and wife, Keriann, and together they founded Wicked Tulip Flower Farms.
Jeroen delighted Keriann to the sights of hundreds of thousands of Angeliques in Holland, the couple’s favorite tulip variety. Flash forward a few years, and the duo brought not just the Angelique, but 150 varieties of tulips to Rhode Island and Connecticut.
General admission tickets cost $24.95 during weekdays, $29.95 on weekends and $5.50 for children over age 4. Children’s tickets do not include U-pick flowers but do grant unlimited access to the fields.
Wicked Tulips Flower farm notes it only releases tickets when the fields are “wow-worthy.” Weather dependent, the tulip farms are slated to open as early as the first week of April and typically run into early May. Below are the estimated opening dates and tulip blooms:
