Twin Donuts closing has left a lot of Bostonians heartbroken. The diner, most known for its old-school donuts and iconic neon red cursive sign, will offer its final service on Sunday, March 23, 2025, after 70 years in business.
About Twin Donuts
Twin Donuts first opened in Allston in 1955. Twin Donuts became the spot for college students to connect over sugar-dusted donuts, or locals to swing by for a hot coffee and a satiating diner-style breakfast. Twin Donuts first opened in 1955. In 2001 the diner came under the ownership of Chiang Sou Pang and her late husband, Leang Sim Taing.
A neighborhood staple
The couple was known for the generosity since purchasing the business, sometimes granting complimentary treats to college students. Twin Donuts, often referred to as a “neighborhood staple,” will be dearly missed. The economic landscape has left many beloved local businesses at a struggle to make ends meet, and the restaurant confirmed that slowing business is the main culprit behind the closure.
When purchasing Twin Donuts, the family also purchased two Brighton diners, Café Mirror and Brighton Cafe, with all three establishments within a mile of each other.
Pang is a Cambodian refugee, who ran the three diners while raising a family with her late husband Leang Sim Taing. Pang shared in a statement about Twin Donuts closing:
It is with profound sadness that we announce Twin Donuts will be closing our doors on Monday, March 24th, 2025. March 23rd will be our last day of service. It has been an honor and privilege to serve our Allston/Brighton community…and your business has been truly appreciate by our family all of these years. We do hope to see you at our sister locations.
While Twin Donuts’ last day of service will be Sunday, March 23, you can still visit Café Mirror and Brighton Cafe for Pang’s kind hospitality and diner-style menus.
