Wednesday night into Thursday morning this week may bring the first snow of this winter to the city. Although astronomical winter doesn’t commence until December 21, the day of the winter equinox, we’re deep in meteorological winter, and with that comes the anticipation, and anxieties, of Boston winters.
The forecast for Boston on Thursday morning is cloudy with a chance of mixed snow and rain showers. The low on Wednesday night will be just cold enough that the precipitation could go either way, snow or freezing rain and ice. The showers, whether snow or rain, won’t last long, occupying most of the morning and moving out by the afternoon, with cloudy and blustery conditions to follow.
Thursday’s high is 43 and low is 28, so there is a possibility for sheets of black ice and a slick morning, but the snow likely will melt away as it falls. Don’t get too excited bout the prospect of snow, or worried if you’re not a fan. Boston is expected to accumulate under 1 inch total and west of 495 could see maximum 1-3 inches of snow in Massachusetts.
The entire week brings below average temperatures, making it the perfect excuse to enjoy some of these cozy activities in Boston. Friday in particular brings chilly “biting winds.” Warm up with some cocoa and a fireplace!
