Records broke in Rhode Island. The city of Providence witnessed over 37 total inches of snowfall from yesterday’s blizzard.
The most snowfall recorded in the city’s history was in the blizzard of 1978, which dumped just over 28 inches on the city. 48 years later, the blizzard of 2026 left all of that plus about 10 extra inches!
This is the most snowfall recorded in Providence’s history, just under an hour outside Boston.
Boston received plenty of snow, just over 18 inches. How
ever, this storm did not outsnow the blizzard of 1978, which dumped 27.1 inches on Boston.
The blizzard of ’78 holds strong as one of the top 10 snowiest days in Boston history.
