The beloved Boston Public Garden tradition, which coincides with Mother’s Day, returns to the city on Sunday, May 10. Prepare yourselves for an explosion of cuteness. 100s to thousands of children dress up in quacktastic duck costumes, with fun family-friendly activities.
On Duckling Day, the Friends of the Boston Public Garden celebrate the story that inspired the iconic Boston story, Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey, and sculpted for Boston Public Garden by Nancy Schön.
The parade is a reenactment of the popular children’s book in a way, in which thousands of human ducklings will take over the Boston Public Garden. From 6 month old ducks to newborn ducks to 7-year-old ducks, families of all sizes are welcome to celebrate the core message of the popular children’s book which speaks to the courage, intuition, and love of mothers.
Boston’s 33rd Duckling Day Parade
The adorable Duckling Day Parade tradition is now in its 33rd year. This year’s festivities include:
- Make Way for Ducklings reading station
- Play space
- One-woman circus
- Face painting
- Live dancing
- Live marching band
- Crafts and more
The grand finale of the event is a parade tracing Mrs.Mallard’s iconic steps to the Make Way for Ducklings sculpture in Boston.
