The lilac collection at Harvard College’s Arnold Arboretum is among the premier in the world. With 173 taxa (types) of lilacs, it contains one among the most diverse and beautiful collections of lilac.
On the Arboretum’s annual Lilac Sunday, visitors get not only the chance to view the lilacs, but also picnic among their beauty. It is the only day in which the arboretum allows picnicking.
Lilac Sunday coincides with Mother’s Day each year, making it the perfect way to celebrate mom and enjoy fresh spring florals! The tradition of Lilac Sunday dates back to 1908, making it over a century old tradition!
