Established nearly 100 years ago, in 1925, over 1 million guests stayed at the Hawthorne Hotel, including a few recognizable figures. Some have even been bold enough to host their weddings, anniversaries, and prom parties at Hawthorne, according to the hotel.
USA Today, who recently recognized the hotel as the ninth most haunted in America, notes that guests who want a paranormal experience should book room 325 or 612.
When staying at the Hawthorne Hotel, guests looking for a paranormal experience should book Room 325, which is reportedly the most haunted room in the hotel. Many guests also have reported seeing a ghostly woman walking the halls of the sixth floor as well as in Room 612. Other reports mention unexplained noises and moving furniture.
Earlier this year, the Hawthorne Hotel landed itself on the list of “The Best Places To Stay In 2023,” according to Yelp. The hotel came in at number 37 on the list of 100.
Not all ghosts and ghouls
In addition to the paranormal activity noted by visitors, a few startling celebrity sightings took place at the Hawthorne Hotel. In 2015 Robert De Niro and Jennifer Lawrence stayed on the property and filmed scenes for the feature-film Joy at the hotel.
The hit series Bewtiched also filmed its Salem Saga and iconic elevator scene in the hotel back in June 1970.
It’s not all screams and scares at the hotel. It’s centrally located in Salem, and each year the hotel hosts an annual Halloween Ball in the grand ballroom since 1990. Guests dress to the theme and visitors and locals alike celebrate the haunted happenings in Salem.
