Hamilton is one of the top 5 bestselling musicals of all-time, just topped by The Lion King, Wicked, and The Phantom of the Opera. It is now playing in Boston for the first time in five years, for just a limited time! The musical debuted at the Citizens Bank Opera House this March and will run nightly, and some afternoon shows through March 12 as part of a North American tour.
For those of you unfamiliar with Hamilton, almost impossible to believe, it is a cult-favorite musical that debuted on New York City’s Broadway in August 2015. Since then, creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has taken the world by storm with fans joining in for world tours, buying merch, and more to express their unceasing love for Hamilton.
The play is based on the book, Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow, which tells the story of Statesman and Founding Father, Alexander Hamilton:
Hamilton is a sung-and-rapped-through musical with music, lyrics, and a book by Lin-Manuel Miranda, based on the 2004 book Alexander Hamilton by Ron Chernow. The musical tells the story of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. Composed over a seven-year period from 2008 to 2015, Miranda says Hamilton was originally a hip hop concept album in his head. The show draws heavily from hip hop, as well as R&B, pop, soul, and traditional-style show tunes. It casts non-white actors as the Founding Fathers of the United States and other historical figures. Miranda described Hamilton as about “America then, as told by America now.”
The unique delivery of the musical is what drew so much praise in the early days. The musical runs about 3 hours with a 15-minute intercession after act one. The show takes place in the historically breathtaking Citizens Bank Opera House located in Boston’s Theatre District.
The Opera House was built nearly 100 years ago in 1928! It’s your chance to catch a groundbreaking historic musical inside a historic theatre!
