Boston-area visitors can now experience a larger-than-life outdoor art exhibition at New England Botanic Garden at Tower Hill, where Glass in Flight has made its regional debut. Created by artist Alex Heveri, the installation features 30 steel-and-stained-glass sculptures inspired by pollinators and beneficial insects, turning the Boylston garden into a shimmering landscape of color, light, and movement.
Pollinators in motion

Set throughout the garden, the sculptures depict hummingbirds, butterflies, dragonflies, beetles, and more in midair, among blooms, and overhead in the sunlight. The work uses Dalle de Verre stained glass and steel to create bold, textured forms that shift as natural light changes. According to the release, the show marks a regional debut for the exhibition and includes several never-before-seen sculptures.
Nature as art

Heveri, who is based in Tucson, Arizona, said she wants the pieces to create moments of surprise and delight while celebrating the essential role pollinators play in the natural world.
“Working with Alex Heveri has been an inspiration,” says Lea Morgan, exhibitions manager for New England Botanic Garden. “Her sculptures invite a sense of wonder, awe, and curiosity about the natural world that perfectly aligns with the Garden’s mission and the experiences we aim to foster year-round. We hope our visitors will enjoy encountering these captivating, iconic pieces, and return throughout the seasons to experience them again in a new light.”
Visitors can also take advantage of guided walking tours and golf cart tours included with general admission, with advanced registration recommended.
