Now in its second year, the Fenway Park Marathon returns at the top of summer on Saturday, May 30.
With just 100 spots, this is one of Boston’s most-limited bibs. Athletes have the option to complete a full marathon, 26.2 miles, or a half marathon entirely inside the warning track of Fenway Park.
113 laps inside of Fenway Ballpark
To complete the marathon distance is a total of 113 laps inside of Fenway! Each lap is approximately a quarter-mile. If that number of laps makes your head spin, the race offers a half marathon distance, plus marathon relays of 2-5 participants per team.
As a circular, rather than linear course, spectators will have the unique privilege of cheering on participants for the entirety of the race’s duration!
Marathon for a good cause
Unlike traditional marathons, where participants can qualify based on speed or win a lottery for entry, the Fenway Park Marathon requires all participants to fundraise. Each participant must raise a minimum of $5,000, with the funds attributed towards two impactful local charities: the Red Sox Foundation, the official charity of the Boston Red Sox, and the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation, which seeks to inspire and empower youth to increase physical activity, expand literacy, and build community and self-esteem.
“We are so excited for the return of the Fenway Park Marathon,” said Bekah Salwasser, Boston Red Sox Executive Vice President of Social Impact and Red Sox Foundation Executive Director. “This fundraiser not only gives participants access to a unique race setting in the iconic Fenway Park, but it will also generate critical funds for the Red Sox Foundation and the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation.”
