In an effort to foster community, the City of Cambridge is making it easier to know they neighbor. With a Cambridge Block Party Permit, the city pays you to host an epic party, reducing the financial burden of throwing a memorable neighborhood party. Plus, the city aids in closing off your street the day of your party, so the whole neighborhood can join the fun!
Beyond the $200 financial award perk, the city’s involvement makes it much easier to throw an unforgettable bash! Every Cambridge Block Party Permit comes with optional “Play Streets” equipment to take your party to the next level. The Play Streets program is an add-on to the initial Block Party Program.
What is Play Streets?
With Play Streets, the city loans the host a set of exciting engaging party games like a bounce house, cornhole, giant Jenga, a parachute, jump ropes, basketballs and hoops, street hockey and pucks, tether tennis, stilts, and more. They even provide a team, free of charge, to help set up the equipment on the day of your block party!
How to apply for a Cambridge Block Party Permit
Residents of Cambridge must fill out the online Block Party application for the street they reside on. Employees of non-profits can also apply for a permit for the block on which they work. In order to receive the party permit and $200 award, there are a few administrative tasks that the host must submit with the online application to qualify:
- Collect signatures of support from 25% of the households on the street before permit application
- Draft a block party advertising flyer to submit with your application
- You must apply at least 14 days prior to your desired block party date
Applicants are recommended to apply for a variety of dates as long as they are all noted as “approved” by the collected signatures. Get inspired at the upcoming Cambridge city-wide dance party!
