Call a Boomer landed in Boston!
The retro-inspired payphone (that is completely free to use) is installed on Commonwealth Avenue on the Boston University campus.
What is ‘Call a Boomer’
Call a Boomer is a social experiment targeting the loneliness epidemic in the two groups it’s recorded to impact the most.
Addressing loneliness in boomers and zoomers
New data shares that nearly 50% of boomers experience social isolation, and even more zoomers experience it. While loneliness is disregarded by some, the Surgeon General’s Advisory notes that extreme loneliness could have the same health impacts as smoking 15 cigarettes per day.
Boston ranked as one of the loneliest cities in America.
Call a Boomer, Boston!
While the phone connects boomers and zoomers, anyone in Boston can indulge in the delightful opportunity to connect with someone on the other side of the country.
The other end of the line reaches to Sierra Manor, a subsidized senior housing facility in Reno, Nevada. Their phone reads “call a zoomer,” where their phone calls signal a ring at the Boston University phone right outside of Pavement Coffeehouse.
