With approximately one dog for every 10 people in Boston Seaport, you’d think we’d have a dog mayor by now!? There’s no hiding this neighborhood’s strong affinity for canines but it’s about time somebody speaks their language. The polls for electing Boston’s first dog mayor remain open now through August 30.
The people—or the pups, we’re not sure—have spoken and the city is seriously about to get its first dog mayor this November! The race, dubbed “Bark the Vote,” by Boston Seaport wants to celebrate the vibrant members of its community.
To celebrate our favorite four-legged friends, Seaport will appoint an official neighborhood dog mayor in 2024, notes Boston Seaport.
This election is taken very seriously. 15,000 votes have been cast among the 175 dogs in the electoral race. Voting closes on August 30 and the top 5 dogs proceed to the final voting round, “Pooch Primaries.”
The Pooch Primaries voting period runs from October 15-30. The city will announce Boston’s official dog mayor on November 1, 2024. Come March, Boston’s new dog mayor will be honored at their “InDOGuration,” complete with a reveal of the mayor’s official portrait and Barksworth Manor, the mayor’s new residence.
Nominations closed on August 14, so no new candidates can participate in the race. However, you can cast your vote for canine mayor until August 30 for the first round. Voting for the primaries opens on October 15.
