France is six hours from Boston, but some of the best French baked goods are only a couple of miles away. Michette, established in Somerville in 2023, just earned recognition among the “14 best French bakeries in the U.S.,” according to Tasting Table, a leading food and dining publication.
The accolade highlights the bakery’s commitment to classic French techniques, from flaky croissants to perfectly balanced pastries, quickly making it a standout in Boston’s culinary scene.
About Michette
Founded in 2023, Michette quickly expanded its reach across Boston, serving its delicious pastries at cafés throughout the city, including Gracenote in the Leather District and New Leaf Espresso in Davis Square. The bakery is also preparing to open a second location in Cambridge.
Michette is especially well known for its twice-baked croissants, though the menu extends far beyond that signature item. Michette offers a wide range of specialty goods, all crafted using traditional French techniques and high-quality imported ingredients. Standouts include the buckwheat chocolate chip cookies, along with an array of croissants, sourdough loaves, and other freshly baked pastries.
Methodology
Tasting Table is a leading food and culture publication, and just released a list of the 14 best French bakeries in the nation.
Michette is the only New England bakery to make the list. To assemble its ranking of the top 14 French bakeries in the U.S., Tasting Table considered data from the Michelin Guide and the James Beard Foundation, as well as bakeries helmed by chefs who studied or worked in France.
