Massachusetts State Police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that damaged the River Street Bridge over the Charles River Tuesday afternoon.
The crash happened around 12:50 PM near the DoubleTree hotel, where the bridge connects Soldiers Field Road in Boston and Memorial Drive in Cambridge. Police said one vehicle sideswiped another before a driver mounted the sidewalk and hit the bridge wall.
“A motor vehicle went up onto the sidewalk and struck the wall, causing a 6-foot section of wall to fall into the river,” a State Police spokesperson said. Tw vehicles were involved, and one left the scene.
No injuries were reported. MassDOT installed a temporary steel barrier, and the bridge remains open pending an inspection.
